As someone who spends their days traveling across regional Australia teaching STEM, I’ve developed a strong conviction: our remote communities aren’t just going to participate in the future of technology – they’re going to help shape it.
Every week I’m on the road, visiting different schools and communities. What I’ve learned is that regional students bring unique perspectives to problem-solving. They see practical applications for technology that their metropolitan peers might never consider – like using drones for property maintenance or 3D printing for creating spare parts when the shop isn’t just a quick drive down the road.
In my workshops, I focus on more than just the technical skills. Yes, we cover robotics, coding, and 3D printing, but we also develop:
• Critical thinking through real-world challenges
• Collaboration skills through team projects
• Innovation mindset through hands-on problem-solving
These are the skills I know our regional students will need for the future, regardless of their chosen career path.
